Keeping track of sanctimonious, homophobia-spewing, lying, hypocritical Republican politicians getting caught in the bushes (or the bathrooms) while having sex or trying to have sex with men can be a full-time job! Why bother? The good folks at Twankle LLC have taken a wide stance on the matter and produced a deck of Gay Republican Hypocrites Playing Cards. For just $8.95 you can start hitting blackjack with the likes of Mark “No female pages” Foley and Glen “Sleeping Orator” Murphy Jr.

The California Academy of Sciences ends its SOMA exile in just 31 days, opening its doors to the public for the first time on a completely redesigned, completely green living museum in Golden Gate Park. Here’s 7×7’s look at Claude and Lady, the Academy’s two new albino alligators, as they’re introduced to their swampy home (also: penguins, yay!), while SF Gate goes behind the scenes of the $484 million project with more pictures — I can’t wait to check out some of those new aquariums.

From The Advocate:

Del Martin, who just this past June wed her partner of nearly 55 years when gay marriage was legalized in the state of California, died Wednesday morning with her partner, Phyllis Lyon, by her side, according to the National Center for Lesbian Rights. She was 87.

Thank you, Del, for everything you have done to advance equal rights for all Americans. You will be missed.

A couple of weeks ago the blogosphere was suddenly very taken with a recipe promising chocolate cake in five minutes. I’ve been doing a bit of testing and experimenting with this recipe and I’m pleased to report my findings.

I thought the original cake was too light on the chocolate taste, so I added an extra half tablespoon of cocoa. Because the end result seemed a little too dry, I added cherries to the mix, the fruit added just the right amount of moisture.

This is a cake that was meant to be consumed warm. If you set it aside and let it cool down you will return to a chocolately dish sponge.

Finally, remember that this is chocolate cake created in a microwave-safe mug or bowl, so don’t expect a Tartine-level delicacy. It’s tasty, but if such instant gratification might predispose you to leaving dramatic comments on a blog then perhaps you didn’t approach this dessert with realistic expectations.

Chocolate Cherry Cake In Five Minutes

4 tbsp. cake flour
4 tbsp. sugar
2 1/2 tbsp cocoa
1 egg
3 tbsp. milk
3 tbsp. oil
1/4 cup fresh, pitted cherries (you can go up to a 1/2 cup if you want)

Combine dry ingredients in a coffee mug or microwave-safe bowl. Spoon in the egg and mix well. Add milk and oil and mix thoroughly. Add cherries, mix until well distributed.

Microwave on high for three minutes (1000 watt microwave), wait for cake to rise and set in your mug or bowl. Put cake on dish, or just eat out of the bowl or mug.

Oh, and why no photographs? This is not a photogenic cake. See Dizzy Dee’s pictures if you want proof.

Enjoy!
